Westfield's Education Programs
Learn about the past in an immersive, multi-sensory environment that makes history come alive through hands-on activities and memorable experiences. All programs are developed with reference to the learning objectives outlined in the Ontario Curriculum.
Program fees are $6.00 per student, and $11.00 for a full day program. There is no charge for teachers or supervising adults. Westfield has a three week cancellation policy. Book now at 519-621-8851.

A Frozen Land-
Experience the joys and trials of winter in early Canada. Try your hand at traditional pioneer games and crafts, experience life in a one room schoolhouse, learn about Victorian strategies for keeping healthy and cozy up to the fire in the D'Aubigny Inn to learn about winter travel.
Offered Mornings 10:00 - 11:30 or afternoons 12:30 to 2:00

Secrets of the Pioneer Forest-New Program
Through discovering the fundamental connections between human activity and our natural world, students will increase their understanding of the need to protect the environment. This program considers the impact of settlement, technology, agricultural practices and industry on water, air, soil, plants, animal habitats, energy and food resources of Southern Ontario from the late 1700s through to the early 20th century. Through hands-on activities and discussion, children will consider the ways in which our environment has changed over this period, and the lessons that can be learned for future action. Offered Spring and Fall. Half day and full day options available.

Down on the Farm - Pioneers
Experience the joys and trials of pioneer life in Upper Canada with a visit to an early log home, straw-filled barn, rustic country inn and one room log schoolhouse. This program involves fun activities to help students learn about the many factors that impacted Upper Canadians farm families.

Town Life
What was it like to live in a small town in Canada during the mid-late 19th century? Students will have an opportunity to learn about the responsibilities and expectations of a child in a Confederation-era home, the central importance of a general store, the impact of railways on small communities and the development and popularity of motion pictures at the turn of the century.

A Child's Christmas
Westfield's beautifully decorated village is the setting for learning about how early Canadians prepared for Christmas. Students will visit a log home and discover traditional decorating techniques and Christmas foods. A stop at the Cathcart School will be an opportunity to create a lovely take-home holiday craft. At the Mountsberg Church, students will stage a traditional play, based on the original Christmas story.

The Sweet Taste of Spring – Maple Syrup
There's nothing quite so Canadian as the sweet taste of maple syrup! Students will learn how early European settlers were taught to make maple syrup by Native Canadians, the techniques of pioneer Canadians, and how maple syrup is made today. Mmm!
Offered mornings or afternoons in March. 10:00 - 11:30 or 12:30 - 2:00
